Walk through the historic lime tree avenue
Planned asphalt road threatens Brandenburg natural monument
On Saturday, April 19th, 2003 from 3 p.m., Axel Bieseke, member of the Association of Friends of the German-Polish European National Park Unteres Odertal, will take a three-kilometer hike through one of the most beautiful avenues in Brandenburg, the Lindenallee between Staffelde and Neurochlitz. This unique cultural monument is threatened by the planned construction of a 3 meter wide new asphalt road between the old rows of trees, an unnecessary construction measure, because cyclists can already make good use of the picturesque route today, as can the necessary commercial traffic. The path, which was previously paved with natural materials, is to be paved. This sealing of the soil will damage the existing roots and threaten the avenue of linden trees with creeping death. A good topic for Holy Saturday.
The pre-Easter walk, to which I would like to cordially invite you, also goes well with other highlights of the hike, for example the visit to the barrow of Staffelde as well as the explanation of the history of Staffelde and the local Easter customs.
The meeting point is Saturday, April 19th, 2003 at 3 p.m. at the Speicher (former church) in Staffelde. The tour by the committed local nature conservationist Axel Bieseke is free of charge, donations are welcome.
