The country needs new paths
Association calls for new border crossings for pedestrians, cyclists, ferries and buses
On the occasion of Poland’s accession to the European Union, especially on the occasion of the conference “Paths towards one another — a retrospective and a look into the future” on Saturday, April 24th, 2004 in Greifenhagen (Gryfino), CEO Thomas Berg declared: “Poland’s accession to the EU aims to bring people even closer to one another and requires new approaches. However, they do not necessarily have to be passable with a private car, a German and perhaps a Pole dearest child. You can find each other without a car. For example, our association calls for the opening of the Mescherin / Greifenhagen (Gryfino) border crossing to pedestrians, cyclists and bus services for all EU citizens, not just as before, for borderland residents, but also for regular public bus services to the towns of Mescherin, Gartz , Schwedt, Königsberg (Chojna) and Greifenhagen (Gryfino) connects.
In order for the Lower Oder Valley National Park to really become a cross-border international park, further crossings for pedestrians are necessary, as is common between other cross-border national parks, for example between the Bavarian Forest and the Bohemian Forest (Germany / Czech Republic).
The Marienhofer Wehr is ideal for this, but also a ferry connection between Fiddichow (Widuchowa) and the previous customs house in the Fiddichower Polder (10), which will lose its function on May 1, 2004 and can be redeployed. It was to become a ferry house, a national park center for cross-border tourism. Before the war there was already a ferry connection, it just had to be reactivated. This is part of the new normal.
The association is ready and able to actively participate in all of these projects, for the benefit of the people in the entire region. ”
