Regarding the decision of the Federal Environment Minister Jürgen Trittin

Regarding the decision of the Federal Environment Minister Jürgen Trittin, contrary to the wishes of the Brandenburg state government, the Association of Friends of the German-Polish European National Park Unteres Odertal e. V. not to withdraw the sponsorship for the major nature conservation project of national representative importance “Lower Odertal”, explained the chairman of the board Thomas Berg:

“Since 1992, the association has fulfilled the nature conservation requirements for the areas it has acquired, point by point, in the grant notification from the Brandenburg Environment Minister Matthias Platzeck, as far as it was able to do so. He took the then environment minister seriously and at his word and pursued high-quality, demanding and internationally recognized nature conservation for the benefit of people living today and in the future, on a voluntary and non-profit basis. In the future he will continue his work in the interests of the common good and for the preservation of creation for the coming generations; he will not let himself be swayed by the populist leaps and U‑turns of Platzeck and Birthler, but will faithfully fulfill the mandate he received from Platzeck in 1992. The association will continue its work on the basis of the National Park Act of 1995, the grant notice of 1992 and the IUCN Guidelines II in the future, in close coöperation with the nature conservation associations and all people in the region, at the municipal, state and federal level who participate are interested in forward-looking nature conservation and nature-friendly tourism “.
